Unit 225 Board Meeting Minutes
This meeting was again held virtually. Nine directors were present: Jo Ellen Wade, Linda Harrison, John Hamilton, Sandra O’Bannon, Mary Ramsey, Rathnam, Carol Kinsey, Phyllis Alvarez, and Tom Spradlin were in attendance.
The meeting was called to order at 11:30 AM. The Board approved the minutes for the August 21 meeting, which had been circulated previously. Also, the Board approved the treasurer’s report for August.
John Hamilton reviewed the status of awards. Four players (Annette Crawford, Sammie Borum, Cliff Smith, and Nancy Green) have qualified for various stages of Life Master Awards. We need to procure plaques for these and for the Emily Leake Award (won by Suzanne Smith) and the Ben Friend Award (won by Mary Bartley). Rathnam will advise John where to get these plaques, and they will be ready for our first opportunity to present them. All of these award winners have been posted to the unit website.
The Board discussed the Tournament of Stars scheduled in April, 2021, and concluded that postponing the tournament into later 2021 would probably not be feasible. The Board voted to cancel the tournament and ask for a refund for our deposit from the host hotel. Jo Ellen will cancel the sanction.
Rathnam has communicated with the Holiday Inn that we will make a decision on the Tournament of Roses (scheduled for July, 2021) in early 2021.
There is still no date set for reopening of the Tyler Senior Citizens Center, so unit games remain in limbo. Meanwhile, clubs in Gun Barrel, Canton, Nacogdoches, and Longview are open.
Carol Kinsey suggested we send a card to Bonnie Gorman, and Phyllis Alvarez agreed to do so.
The meeting adjourned at 12:05 PM.
Tom Spradlin, Secretary
