AUGUST 10, 2019
UNIT 225 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The meeting was called to order at 11:30 by President Linda Harrison.
The minutes from the last meeting held Aug. 11, 2018 were read by Tom Spradlin, secretary. The minutes were approved by voice vote.
The annual financial report was presented by Treasurer Sandra O’Bannon. The report reflected a July 31, 2019 ending balance of $42062.02, reflecting a net loss of $1501.77 for the year. Three months showed a profit for the unit, while 9 months showed losses. Sandra discussed some of the expenses that have been incurred during the last year, including the purchase of a new computer for use in the unit games, the purchase of 65 new card tables, the acquisition of a Yahoo web account, and purchase of food for 3 different games. Also, the unit helped the Nacogdoches club to purchase BridgeMates.
Sandra also pointed out that expenses will be helped in future by the fact that the Scorecard is now digital. The profit from the Tournament of Stars was down significantly from 2017, in fact there were
about 400 fewer tables in attendance. The profit from the Tournament of Roses was about the same as 2018. Sandra observed that revenues are down from a decrease in attendance at unit games and
emphasized that we need better attendance at the unit games and we need a source of new players. The financial report was approved by voice vote.
President Harrison recognized the outgoing Board members, Barbara Bradford and Patsy Gordon, and commended their work. The nominees for the Board positions were: Phyllis Alvarez (second term), John Hamilton, Linda Harrison (second term), Carol Kinsey, Mary Ramsey and Jo Ellen Wade. These 6 nominees were elected by acclamation.
Sandra O’Bannon reported on the profitability of the two tournaments. The Tournament of Roses made a profit of $3003.77. President Harrison pointed out the helpfulness of members in putting together the tournament and reminded the members that more help will be needed in the future. The Tournament of Stars made a profit of $1366.78. Mike Graham pointed out that attendance at TOS from some Texas cities was good (such as Houston, Austin, San Antonio), but the turnout from Dallas was disappointing, because players from Dallas tend to commute, rather than use the hotel. He reported hearing glowing reports on the facilities of the TOS. President Harrison and Charles Ford praised the work of Mike and Shirley Shelton, and they are open to doing the work again.
The annual awards were presented by Pres. Harrison and Patsy Gordon. Recipients were:
Ennis Dyess suggested from the floor that the general business meeting next year begin at noon so that members could proceed directly to the Unit Game.
